DESIGN CHALLENGE
32 DAY
SPORTS DESIGN · CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT · SOCIAL MEDIA GRAPHICS | PERSONAL PROJECT
Create one high-quality graphic per day for all 32 NHL teams. Inspired by the “Design a Day” concept, each day presented a new team, a new visual concept, and an opportunity to experiment with a different approach to sports design.
GOAL: Push my creative boundaries, sharpen my design skills, and build a dynamic, sports-focused portfolio through consistent daily practice.
THE BRIEF
THE CHALLENGE
DESIGNING 32 TEAMS UNDER TIGHT CONSTRAINTS.
The biggest challenge was time. Each graphic had to be completed in roughly 1–3 hours, often alongside coursework and other commitments. Generating fresh, unique ideas for 32 different teams without repeating concepts tested both creativity and efficiency. Sourcing high-quality images and assets also proved challenging at times, requiring quick problem-solving and adaptation. At the same time, I wanted to use the project as an opportunity to explore different techniques, visual styles, and approaches to better understand my own direction as a sports designer.
SOLUTION & APPROACH
TURNING CONSTRAINTS INTO CREATIVE DIRECTION.
To keep the challenge manageable, I planned rough concepts for each team in advance, giving me a starting point before each day began. From there, I explored different layouts, color palettes, typography, imagery, and visual treatments to give each team its own direction.
The tight 1–3 hour timeframe encouraged me to make decisions quickly and work more efficiently. When an image wasn’t available or a concept wasn’t translating as expected, I adapted rather than getting stuck. These constraints pushed me to experiment, problem-solve, and find unexpected solutions while developing a stronger sense of my own visual style.
KEY TAKEAWAYS & OUTCOMES
PROGRESS THROUGH CONSISTENT PRACTICE.
The challenge reinforced that progress is more important than perfection. Designing every day pushed me to work through ideas, make decisions faster, and become more comfortable with experimentation. Planning ahead and managing time effectively became just as important as the design itself.
I completed all 32 graphics without skipping a day. Over the course of the challenge, I grew in speed, problem-solving, and stylistic exploration, resulting in a portfolio-ready collection that reflects my versatility & developing approach to sports design.
